Music to My Ears
The Fergus Falls Public Library has a fantastic collection of sheet music. We have several books of music for voice, piano, guitar, and a few other instruments, including the organ, ukulele, harmonica, and hammered dulcimer.
While reviewing the music collection, I noticed how well the music books circulate. I also noticed how well-worn many of them have become. We are doing our best to update the collection with new material. Recently added books include the “Songs of the Decades” series. We have added 10 volumes to this collection, which span 10 decades of music from 1910 through 2010.
The collection also includes “The John Prine Sheet Music Collection,” “Heart in Motion” by Amy Grant, “The Rodgers and Hammerstein Song Book,” and “The Life of a Showgirl: All 12 Songs from the Album Arranged for Piano, Voice, and Guitar” by Taylor Swift. There are books of Christmas music, hymns, songs from musicals, as well as rock, country, folk, and classical. The library’s collection of music includes arrangements for all levels of musicians.
If you are using the online library catalog to search for music, select “subject” and type in “sheet music.” You will find more than three pages of titles. You may also find it useful to use search terms such as “notated music” or “scores.” If you are looking for a specific composer or creator, you can search by author.
The library has a digital piano, generously donated by a patron. This beautiful instrument is available for anyone to play. Perhaps you used to play piano but no longer have access to a piano, or maybe you are taking lessons and do not have one to practice on; we invite you to practice at the library. The digital piano comes complete with headphones, so other library guests will not hear you playing.
